Range Rover Sport SVR

Before turbochargers took over, Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations put a supercharged five-litre V8 in the Sport and tuned the exhaust to bark. The SVR makes 575 horsepower, gets to 62mph in a shade over four seconds, and announces itself from a street away.

SVO also fitted bigger brakes, stiffer bushes, a quicker steering rack and the carbon-backed performance seats. It is the last of the old-school fast Range Rovers and the one people still ask for by name.

Ours is Velocity blue over ivory and black hide with the SVR performance seats, gloss-black 21-inch alloys, red calipers and the quad exhaust.

Five seats, a proper boot and a V8 soundtrack. It is valeted, safety-checked and fuelled before every handover, and photographed at collection and return.
